BCI/CTR/Driven Driver Development announce Spencer Bayston as full-time Driver of No. 39

Noblesville, IN – Coming off a record setting year that saw him take the checkered flag ten times in 15 races of USSA Kenyon Midget action, 15-year-old Spencer Bayston is setting his sights on the next step in his young career. The 2014 season will see the Lebanon, Indiana native take the controls of the Bryan Clauson Inc/Corey Tucker Racing/Driven Driver Development No. 39 Spike Chassis powered by Esslinger full-time in the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget Series.

“I am super excited for this opportunity with one of the best midget programs in the country. The POWRi series is full of great competition, but I know our Driven Driver Development team will give me all the tools needed for a great season,” said an excited Bayston.

Spencer and the No. 39 team are no strangers to one another, as the team competed in four races towards the end of the 2013 season. Bayston and championship crew chief Al Scroggins look to build on the Top 5 finish they ended 2013 with at the Kokomo Klash as they chase the 2014 POWRi “Rookie of the Year” honors.

“The opportunity to run four races at the end of last season will hopefully give me a big head start on the 2014 season. Our first goal for this season is to win Rookie of the Year honors. It is too early to know how quickly I will adapt to all of the new tracks but I hope we can be in the championship hunt by seasons end. Having a championship crew and one of the best drivers in the country in Bryan to ask questions and learn from, will only shorten my learning curve and allow me to reach my goals much quicker,” explained Bayston.

Spencer and the Driven Driver Development team will kick off their 2014 POWRi season on March 21st at I-44 Speedway in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The team will utilize Spike Chassis equipped with CSI Shocks and Esslinger power plants on their 41 race championship slate.

“I am extremely excited to bring Spencer into our program. He is an exciting young talent who has had success at every level so far in his career. Spencer is the kind of talent we had in mind when we first started this team several years ago and we look forward to chasing the POWRi National Midget Championship and helping him develop as a driver this season, “ stated co-owner and 4-time USAC National Champion Bryan Clauson.

BCI/CTR/Driven Driver Development would like to thank all of their partners for their support in the 2014 season: Esslinger Engineering, Spike Chassis, CSI Shocks, Simpson Race Products, Mobil 1, Schoenfeld Headers, Keizer Wheels, Wilwood Brakes, Wholesale Connection, E&K of Phoenix, and HoneyBaked Ham of Bloomington.

Spencer Bayston On Top of the Mel Kenyon Midget Series All Time Winners List

Logansport, IN – When Spencer Bayston crossed the finish line on August 10 to take his eighth USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series win, he became the Series’ winningest driver.  Bayston moved Dillon Welch from the top of the list.  Welch had held that spot since 2009.

Bayston took advantage of the pole position to jump to an early lead.  A lap 6 yellow bunched up the field and a fierce race between Jessica Bean and 2012 Champion Travis Young allowed Bayston to gain some breathing room.  Bean eventually pulled way from Young, who then had to defend a spirited run by Clayton Gaines for the third spot.

A lap 22 caution bunched the field up and put Bean in contact with Bayston.  She took advantage of the opportunity and nearly pulled off the pass several times.  On the final lap Gaines charged into turn one under Young moving him just enough to pick up the third spot.  Series regular Cordy Horn drove a steady race to finish fifth.

The Mel Kenyon Mel Kenyon Midget Series will make its inaugural appearance at Coles County Speedway in Mattoon, IL on Saturday August 17th.

It’s Spencer Bayston Again in Mel Kenyon Midget Series Action

Logansport, IN – Spencer Bayston’s dream season continued Saturday Night at US 24 Speedway as he picked up his 6th Mel Kenyon Midget Series win of the 2013 season.  The win gives him six career wins, tied with Travis Young and Grant Galloway and just one win behind career win leader Dillon Welch.  Young, Galloway and Welch all earned their wins over several seasons.

Bayston took the lead from the outside of the front row on lap one and never looked back.  Through the 1st 23 laps Kent Kriegbaum, Grant Simpson and Travis Young waged a furious battle for 2nd place with Young riding the cushion to give himself racing room.

The races 1st yellow came out on lap 23, Young’s high side strategy ran out of grip allowing Simpson to pull away.  Kriegbaum had spun on the restart and put Cordy Horn in touch with the lead pack for the first time.

At the checkers, the official results showed Bayston, Simpson, Young, Horn and Cole Fehr holding down the top five.

Spencer Bayston Returns to the Mel Kenyon Midget Series Victory Lane at US 24 Speedway

Logansport, IN – Spencer Bayston returned to the Mel Kenyon Midget Series victory lane on July 13 at US 24 Speedway.  Bayston didn’t take the easy way to the win however, having to come from the tail following two spins.  Kent Kriegbaum led the 1st 26 laps of the race, before relinquishing the lead to Bayston.

In his race from the tail of the field Bayston encountered a furious battle for second place between Cordy Horn and Clayton Gaines.  Once Bayston managed to pass Horn and Gaines, the two drivers continued to race wheel to wheel for the 3rd spot until Gaines dropped out for mechanical reasons on lap 24.

Horn, Cole Fehr and Amanda Davies filled out the tope five spots behind Bayston and Kriegbaum.

Series regulars Travis Young and Jessica Bean weren’t factors in the race.  Young flipped his car and retired from the event on the 1st lap.  Bean was recovering from an accident at race with another series on July 12. Megan Wood subbed for Bean in the UAW/Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Car.

Spencer Bayston Wins His 3rd Straight Mel Kenyon Midget Series Race at Anderson Speedway

Anderson, IN – Spencer Bayston battled 2012 Mel Kenyon Midget Series Champion Travis Young and a mid-show rain storm to put his third straight win on the board at Wednesday night’s Anderson Speedway.  Bayston dove under Young going into turn 3 on lap 12 to grab the lead.  He extended his lead to a winning margin of nearly two seconds.

A heavy rain halted the qualifying for the Must See 60 Sprint Cars, forcing USSA officials to line the heats up based on practice times.  Following a excellent effort by the Anderson Speedway track officials and workers to dry the track, Jessica Bean and Cordy Horn would go on to win the midget heats.

Horn, Bean and Dameron Taylor put on an exhibition on the Anderson High Banks for the majority of the race in the fight for the third spot.  When the checkered flag finally fell on the 30-lap feature, Horn, Bean and Taylor would claim the third, fourth and fifth spots with the three cars separated by less  0.500 second.

Spencer Bayston Takes Command of the Mel Kenyon Midget Series at US 24 Speedway

Logansport, IN – On the strength of his May 18 win at US 24 Speedway Spencer Bayston has taken command of the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series point race heading into Anderson Speedway on Wednesday May 22.  Bayston topped the second place Ford Focus car of Kent Kriegbaum by 0.708 when the checkered flag dropped on the 30-lap feature.  Bayston has now won 3 of the four Mel Kenyon Midget Series events this year.

The win didn’t come in a walk for Bayston as Kriegbaum held the point for the first 10 markers.  Five yellow flags allowed the field to close up on Bayston’s bumper forcing him to defend his position on the restarts.

Behind Bayston and Kriegbaum, last year’s top two drivers Travis Young and Dameron Taylor were slugging it out for the third spot.  Taylor eventually topped the 2012 Champion Young for third, while Clayton Gaines earned the fifth spot
